Having great style is really about possessing the confidence to be your true self when you get dressed. Sure, you can learn what looks good on you, how menswear should fit you, but when it comes down to it, just owning the s#it out of an outfit is going to sell it better than anything else. So while the plethora of shiny tuxedos at last night’s amfAR Gala was somewhat mesmerizing, the true winners of the Cannes style game are Jim Jarmusch and Iggy Pop. The pair owned the red carpet last night in looks that were so uniquely them, they deserved all the hallelujah emojis in the world.
Jim Jarmusch’s commitment to wearing black tailoring, and ownership of his fantastic silver-white hair, is cool AF. He is the accomplished artist we all want to be. And then there’s Iggy Pop. The man is not wearing a shirt at one of the fanciest red carpet events of the year—and it doesn’t even look contrived. Iggy’s hair, too, is epic. It takes personality to keep your hair that long when you’re pushing 70. Between this and the custom Gucci slides he wore earlier in the day, we want to buy him all the drinks.
Sorry but, not even Gosling can match this level of swagger.
