Today at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando a panel was held specifically to discuss the next film in the franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. As part of that, we got a look at the film’s new poster, and it’s something special. The image focuses on the three major users of the Force that we met in Star Wars: The Force Awakens including, Luke Skywalker, and Kylo Ren, separated by the lightsaber being held aloft by Rey. Check it out.
The new poster was revealed just a moment before the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was shown to the crowd at Star Wars Celebration Orlando. As great as the trailer is, the poster is all of that awesomeness in a single image. Luke Skywalker takes up a huge portion of the poster, giving us the impression that he will be a major part of the new film, a drastic change to the cameo that was essentially all we got in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We also see Kylo Ren, on the opposite side of the lightsaber beam. We see him without his mask, which may be an indication that he won’t be wearing it much in the new movie. An image in the trailer would appear to confirm that.
Finally, we have Rey. While she’s the smallest part of the poster from a size perspective, the blast of light which emanates from the lightsaber makes her impossible to ignore. This is very likely a reference to the power that she will be gaining as she begins to learn how to use her abilities with the Force in a more focused way.
There’s one other item of note here, the fact that the lightsaber in the poster shifts color from blue to red between the bottom and top of the poster. One is the traditional color of light Jedi lightsabers while the other is used to show the dark side. Based on something heard in the new trailer, we’re guessing this is not a coincidence.
Those lucky enough to be in attendance at the Last Jedi panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, like our own Sean O’Connell, will all be walking out the door with one of these posters. Everybody else here at CinemaBlend is incredibly jealous as we’re in agreement that this poster is a great one. It will do its job of grabbing your eye every time you walk past it in your local movie theater. It would also make for a fantastic t-shirt, which we’re guessing are also being printed as we speak.
What do you think of the new poster? It’s much simpler than many of those we have seen from the Star Wars franchise in the past. Is this a good design change? Let us know what you think in the comments.
