A couple of weeks ago we ribbed Jude Law for wearing drop-crotch pants in a not-quite-right way, but the man appears to be unfazed. This week he stepped out in yet another pair of roomier-than-average trousers, this time in pinstripe suit form.

While a drop-crotch silhouette is more or less specific to the Rick Owens set, a lot of designers are experimenting with a wider, looser trouser right now. Some are cinched at the waist and slightly cropped, like the way a skater kid might wear a pair of Dickies, while others are elegant and loose throughout the leg, like Armani’s unstructured suits from the 1980s (think: Richard Gere in American Gigolo).

So did Jude Law pull this daring look the second time around? While we’d argue that it makes him appear shorter than he deserves (he’s 6-feet-tall), he also looks pretty damn cool. And, given that the suit is in the middle of nasty divorce with our office wardrobes, we appreciate anyone working to remind us that the icon is vehicle for self-expression, and not just some played-out uniform.
