All hope is not lost for Nashville. Cable network CMT is nearing a deal with producer Lionsgate to pick up the axed ABC drama series for a fifth season. If the deal pushes through, fans may get some resolution left by the season four finale cliffhanger in which Juliette Barnes’ (Hayden Panettiere) plane went missing.
“Lionsgate is still in discussions that we might end up getting to make another season somewhere else,” Esten said. “I’m extremely grateful for the four years that we had at ABC and that’s how we got to be what we are. But Lionsgate doesn’t feel, and we don’t feel that all the stories are told or all the songs are sung yet. So it’s very possible. There’s still some negotiations and they’re talking to people and we could find out any time. I have no inside knowledge, but I do know there’s still a chance.”
Meanwhile, it’s also uncertain if both Panettiere and costar Connie Britton will be on board if and when Nashville heads to CMT. However, Lionsgate TV chairman Kevin Beggs has said previously that the actors are “essential” to the series moving forward while Deadline points put that both are still under contract.
