The Black Fairy was trying to start the final battle and attempted to recruit Zelena to her side. Zelena was enraged to find the Black Fairy with her daughter and foolishly went to confront her. This is the epitome of her character. She is neither a hero nor really a villain. She has helped Regina from time to time, but she also partnered with the Evil Queen. “Where Bluebirds Fly” revealed that Zelena was once kind and had the makings of a hero, but ultimately turned wicked. The Wicked Witch of the West has finally chosen between good and evil.
Zelena has helped Emma and Regina thwart one of the Black Fairy’s plans. She poured all of her magic into the Crimson Heart and turned the black crystals back into light magic. Self-sacrifice is one of the main components of being a hero on Once Upon a Time. It’s great that Zelena has finally found her place in Storybrooke. She proved to everyone once and for all that she is no longer wicked. Maybe she can begin building a better relationship with her sister and start making friends. Emma and Regina have stopped the Black Fairy for now, but I am sure that she will find another way to start the final battle.
Hopefully, the final battle will live up to all the hype the writers have created. Maybe we will even get to see a wedding at the end of the season.
