“The Wire” star Michael K. Williams is in talks to join the “Stars Wars” Han Solo spinoff, TheWrap has learned.

The actor is best known for his portrayal of Omar Little on the HBO hit series, and for his role as Albert “Chalky” White on HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.”

The cast for the spinoff already includes Alden Ehrenreich (as the titular hero), Donald Glover (Land Calrissian), Emilia Clarke,  Woody Harrelson and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge also star.

The untitled Han Solo film, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is set for a release in 2019. Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur are producing the spinoff.

The next film in the main “Star Wars” saga, “The Last Jedi,” will be released December 15, 2017.

The first standalone film in the “Star Wars” franchise, “Rogue One,” crossed the $1 billion worldwide box office benchmark and has grossed over $500 million at the domestic box office.

Williams recent credits includes HBO’s “The Night Of,” in which he played Riz Ahmed’s fellow inmate and mentor Freddy Knight. He also appears in the ABC mini-series “When We Rise,” which premiered earlier this week on ABC. Next up, Williams has Season 2 of the Sundance Channel series “Hap and Leonard.”

He’s is repped by WME and Silver Lining Entertainment.

Variety first reported the news.
