This is a big one! Shakhtar entertains Spanish giants Sevilla in a pulsating match at the Arena Lviv on Apr, 28, which promises tons of goals. Both these teams have been favored to win the Europa League this season at one point, so you won’t want to miss a single minute. Click down to watch the live stream.
The game is being played at the Arena Lviv because Shakhtar can’t play their home games in Eastern Ukraine, where they are usually based, because of the ongoing conflict there. So that means this is practically being played on neutral soil, rather than the intimidating Donbass Arena.
That has hindered the Ukrainian giants this year, who had to surrender their championship on Apr. 24 to rivals Dynamo Kiev. They’ll still be smarting from that and confidence won’t be high at all for the visit of this premier Spanish outfit that can score goals on the road anywhere it plays.
Boasting the talented striker Kevin Gameiro, who has been hitting his peak this season with 25 goals this season in all competitions, they will have a constant threat upfront. And if he’s presented with the slightest of chances, the 28-year-old won’t hesitate to take it.
Interestingly, this game is a repeat of the 2007 Uefa Cup last 16 game, in which Shakhtar were winning right up to the last minute until the Spanish team’s goalkeeper scored with the last kick of the game, thus sending the match to extra time. Sevilla ended up winning that one and the tournament that season.
“Hopefully, the luck that helped Sevilla in 2007 will be on our side this time,” Shakhtar boss Mircea Lucescu said in a press conference on Apr. 27. It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds!
