Yikes! We hope Janet Jackson knew what she was getting into by getting pregnant at 49-years-old, because with her advanced years comes way more chances of having something go wrong, especially with scary conditions like hypertension and gestational diabetes. An expert tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY what medical problems Janet and her unborn baby are at greater risk for.
“Janet is 49 so complications to the fetus are a concern and the number one would be Down syndrome or chromosome syndrome. Abnormalities and chromosome diseases are much more common with age so if it was a 49-year-old egg (if she used her own egg vs. a surrogate) than there is a higher risk of Down syndrome and other chromosomal diseases,” Dr. David Diaz, a reproductive endocrinologist and fertility expert at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY,
“From a maternal point of view the concerns would be things related to normal aging, like increased risk of hypertension also known as high blood pressure. There is also an increased risk of developing gestational diabetes related to pregnancy, increased risk of blood clotting disorders such as blood clot in the legs or sometimes even in the lungs.” Man, that sounds terrifying!
Janet hinted to fans she may have already been with child and put on doctor-ordered rest on Apr. 6, when she told fans she had to postpone her world tour. In a videotaped announcement she revealed that, “We’re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change. I thought it was important that you be the first to know…my husband and I are planning our family.” She continued with a giant smile on her face noting, “So I’m gonna have to delay the tour. Please if you can understand that I have to do this now. I have to rest up, doctors orders!” We guess that their planning went pretty well if she now has a baby on the way!
HollywoodLifers, do you think it’s a good idea for Janet to be having a baby when she’s 50?
