Netflix is fabulous, but so are other things like, say, spending time with friends. But we all might need a reminder: New numbers suggest that we’re spending double the amount of time streaming as we are hanging with pals IRL.
The team at Cordcutting contrasted Netflix-supplied numbers with figures put out via the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ American Time Use Survey and found that the 100 Netflix’ed minutes we average on the daily is substantially higher than the amount of time we spend doing other stuff. Less than 40 minutes a day are dedicated to socializing and communicating; about eighteen minutes go toward relaxing/thinking and exercising, respectively.
Is something wrong with this picture? We love binge-watching as much as the next person, but it’s probably not good to prioritize that over friend time. Then again, if this study that says half of your friends don’t consider you their friend is correct, streaming might be the better option after all.
So, how can you best spend that hour and 40 minutes on Netflix? Check out our list of everything that arrived this month.
